Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Please contact us with any questions you don't see below

Who are your customers? Our customers are wholesalers, importers, re-baggers, supermarkets, grocery stores, gourmet food stores, specialty stores, club stores, and more. Our products are sold under our Setton Farms brand or our customers' private label, either bulk or packaged.
How can I purchase your products? Setton's products are available for resale by calling our NY office at 1-800-CASHEWS or 631-543-8090. We do not sell directly to consumers.
Why do you have a NY & CA facility instead of just one? Our CA facility is focused primarily on pistachio processing. Its close proximity to our pistachio orchards enables us to keep strict quality control standards. Our NY facility's close proximity to North Eastern shipping terminals enables us to import and export with ease. Having facilities on both coasts affords us the opportunity to maximize shipping strategies and maintain a high level of customer service.
How should I store my dried fruits and nuts? Freshness for maximum enjoyment of all our dried fruits and nuts can be maintained in a similar manner. We recommend that you store your Setton Farms dried fruits and nuts in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Kept this way, most dried fruits and nuts can retain their flavor for up to 6 months.
What is the benefit of having a vertically integrated pistachio processing value chain? Being in every phase of the pistachio processing value chain gives us the ability to control production from the orchard to your home. This means that we are able to adhere to the strictest quality control standards while maintaining an economical price. We begin with superior growing and harvesting techniques that rely on technology to filter out any substandard pistachios which do not meet our high standards of quality. Our roasting technique has been referred to as the "best in the industry", culminating in the purest tasting nut that maintains its just picked taste, never over done. With our packaging process also under the same roof, we can ensure "Just In Time" (JIT) freshness that you can taste!
Do you grow your own pistachios? Setton Farms Pistachios are grown in our own fields or by our family of growers to produce the best quality pistachio nuts. Our pistachios are grown in grape-like clusters on trees in sunny California. They are harvested in early fall during a six week period and are picked at their peak of maturity. Our pistachios are harvested fresh from the trees, caught on tarps, transported, hulled, washed and dried within 24 hours. This ensures maximum freshness and great taste that has come to be associated with Setton Farms pistachios.
What is the top quality in pistachios? The quality of pistachios is determined by its grade. The top grades of pistachios grown are certified U.S. Fancy and U.S. Extra #1. The grade is determined by testing a representative sample and assessing the shape, color, maturity and kernel quality.
How are pistachios sorted? The most common way of sorting pistachios is by size, which places them in one of four categories. The number of pistachios per ounce is associated with each category. Colossal, have fewer than 18 nuts per oz.; Extra Large, have 18 to 20 nuts per oz.; Large, have 21 to 25 nuts per oz.; Medium, have 26 to 30 nuts per oz; and Small, have more than 30 nuts per ounce. Pistachio size varies due to weather, crop year and tree maturity. Setton Farms pistachios are sorted into the largest four sizes, resulting in optimal choices for our customers.
How do you flavor your pistachios? Our flavored pistachios are flavored with all natural ingredients, with no artificial chemical additives whatsoever. The flavoring is applied after the pistachios have been roasted, enabling the flavor to easily be absorbed into the nut. Setton Farms available flavors are: JalapeƱo/Habanero, Garlic-Onion, Chile-Lemon, and Hickory.
Are your products kosher? U, K or other symbols Some Setton Farms products are Kosher. All Kosher products are designated as such. Kosher products either have an U or K certification or other local kosher certifications, which means that they have been reviewed by kosher authorities. They are certified by either the Kashruth Division of the Orthodox Union, by Circle K Authorities or other local kosher agencies represented by their symbol.
Are pistachios healthy? Yes! Pistachios are a great source of vitamins and minerals and are naturally cholesterol free. A serving of pistachios contains 170 calories and is a good source of many key nutrients containing over 10% of the Daily Value of fiber, protein, vitamin B-6, thiamin, phosphorus, magnesium, and copper. Pistachios predominately contain monounsaturated fat, shown to lower both total and LDL "bad" cholesterol levels and heart attack risk. In addition, scientific evidence is mounting to show that consuming nuts can play a role in managing your weight. Please refer to our Pistachio Nutrition page for more information.
